Combination pinion stands are mechanical gear drives that transfer torque from a motor to two parallel rolls of a two high rolling mill. Unlike a typical straight thru pinion stand with a 1:1 gear ratio that has a single input shaft and two output shafts, a combination 2 high pinion stand has additional internal gearing which reduces the speed of the output shafts. Combination pinion stands are the combination of a gear reducer and a pinion stand in one unit. The output shaft speed and torque are proportional to the reduction ratio of the internal gearing.
