Casey Equipment sells used coil cars for metals processing. There are a variety of coil cars used in the metals processing industry. Most coil cars are used for loading and unloading process lines with coils of metal sheet. A typical coil car has the ability to traverse in a horizontal direction and lift/lower in the vertical plane. The car may be manually loaded or self-loading from pre-staged coils. On the entry end of a process line the coil car is loaded and then traverses to the entry payoff reel. The coil is placed on the reel, the coil pallet of the coil car lowers and the car retracts from under the reel. At the exit end of the line, a second car performs the same operation but rather than loading a payoff, it unloads the take up reel. Below ground coil cars are used on the high production process lines found in steel mills. The below ground designation is derived from the fact that the coil pallet is at floor level and the drive mechanisms for the car are located below the floor. This type of coil car requires a trench for the mechanism to traverse in. Above ground coil cars are typically used on the process lines found in service centers. They do not require a deep trench but the coil pallet is elevated above floor level to provide the necessary space for the driving mechanism. Within the past few decades a third type of coil car has come into use. These are self-guided cars that move coils to and from storage locations.
