ROLLING MILL SPINDLES

There are many types of spindles used in industrial applications. Rolling mill spindles are used to transfer the power from a gearbox or pinion stand to a set of mill rolls when a direct connection is not feasible or practical. Spindles are chosen based on their particular application for torque and speed. Most smaller diameter spindles are made from 4140 grade high strength steel bar while many larger diameter spindles used in a rolling mill application are forged steel. While most spindles are fitted with replaceable coupling ends, spade type spindles and jackshafts are forged steel. Spade type couplings are also referred to as universal spindle couplings and were very common. The majority of mills today use cardan type spindle which use a universal style coupling on the shaft ends. Contact Casey Equipment for a quote on used spindles for sale.
