Casey Equipment sells used coil compactors for wire rod mill products. Coil compactors condense the loosely wound wire rod coils by applying a compressive force to the coil in the longitudinal direction. Once the coil of wire rod has been compacted, the coil compactor will secure the coil loops by wrapping either a wire or banding through the eye of the coil then tying the wire or crimping the banding on the outside periphery of the coil. Typical coil compactors will place four wires or banding on the coil simultaneously and equally spaced around the coil’s circumference. The wire tying or banding operation is integral to the compactor process. Once the wire rod coil has been compacted and bound, it is removed from the compactor for weighing, tagging and shipping.
