TENSION LEVELING LINES

Tension leveling lines significantly improve the quality of flatness for coils of ferrous and non-ferrous cold rolled strip. A typical tension leveling line consists of two payoff reels followed by two entry shears, a strip welder, entry bridle rolls, tension leveler, exit bridle rolls, an exit shear and a take up reel. High speed tension leveling line will also have accumulators after the strip welder and before the exit shear to avoid stopping the line to perform these operations. Many tension leveling lines also have a temper mill for gauge control and side trimmers to remove the edges of the steel strip. The leveling of the strip occurs between the entry and exit bridle roll set. The strip is place in tension above the yield point between the bridle sets while passing through the tension leveler. The tension produced by the bridle roll sets stretches (elongates) the strip from 0.5% up to 2% causing the strip to become perfectly level much the same as a stretch leveler. Many tension leveling lines have an electrostatic oiler after the leveling process to protect the strip surface from corrosion.
