A belt wrapper is a non-driven machine with a moving belt that that assists threading the initial wraps of light gauge steel strip onto a recoiler mandrel. The unit is a steel structure with flexible rubberized belt that contacts the reel and catches the light gauge strip as it approaches the reel from a pinch roll. After two or three wraps are formed on the reel mandrel, the belt wrapper retracts from the mandrel which then tensions the strip and forms a tight coil. Belt wrappers are used for light gauge steel, aluminum, copper, brass and other rolled metals. Unlike heavier gauge metals, light gauge strip can tear if coiled using the gripper slot on a typical gripper type expanding mandrel.
