Wire Rod Blocks

Wire rod blocks are used at the finishing end of rolling mills to produce smaller diameter ferrous and non-ferrous round and hexagon shapes. The wire rod block can be form two to tens rolling stands driven by a common motor driven train. Typical wire rod blocks are between eight and ten stands and use a combination of 8” diameter and 6” diameter work rolls. The work rolls of most wire rod blocks are made of tungsten carbide due to its high wear resistance. The finished product is referred to as wire rod and will range in diameter from 7/32” (5.5mm) to ¾” (20mm). After exiting the wire rod block, the wire rod passes through a water cooling chamber before being formed into loops by a laying head. As the loops are formed by the laying head they are discharged onto a stationary pallet or moving conveyor for controlled cooling. Wire rod blocks are sometimes referred to as “K blocks” or “V blocks” depending on the design of the machine and orientation of the work rolls. The finishing speeds of wire modern wire rod blocks are in excess of 20,000FPM (100m/s). Contact Casey Equipment for a quotation on used wire rod blocks available for sale.
