Ladles are insulated steel vessels that are used to transfer molten metal between operations in a melt shop. Ladles are rated in the capacity of molten metal that can be safely transported. Ladles range in size from 40lb. to 330 ton capacity. Depending on the purpose, ladles can be top pour type or bottom pour type. Top pour can either be spout type or oblong shape. Bottom pour ladles use either a slide gate or an insulated stopper rod to control the flow from the bottom of the ladle. Bottom pouring ladles produce a cleaner cast product because the impurities within the molten steel typically float to the top of the ladle. The flow of molten metal is stopped prior to these impurities exiting the ladle. The remaining molten metal, impurities and slag are then poured into a slag pot or pit for recycling. Casey Equipment sells ladles ranging in size from 20 tons to 300 tons. Contact Casey Equipment for a quote on used ladles for sale.
