Casey Equipment sells used hot saws for hot mill applications. Hot saws are used for end trimming, dividing and sample cutting hot rolled material prior to cooling. A hot saw generally has a circular blade which cuts either as a pendulum saw or a traversing saw. A pendulum hot saw pivots down into the piece to make the cut whereas a traversing saw rides on a track and moves horizontally or vertically into the workpiece. Hot saws typically use a large diameter circular blade that is either hardened tool steel with teeth or an abrasive material with a binder. A metal blade hot saw uses the hardened teeth to remove small chips of the material being cut similar to a slot cutter on a milling machine. An abrasive blade hot saw grinds the material away from the workpiece. The toothed blade saw produces chips which are easily recycled and an abrasive hot saw creates dust-like material called swarf. The swarf requires a dust collection system is not easily recycled. The diameter of the toothed blade remains virtually unchanged until the teeth are worn out and require sharpening. The blade diameter of an abrasive hot saw is constantly decreasing as the blades wears from the cutting operation and must be changed once the minimum diameter is reached.
