A shot blaster is a self contained cleaning machine which removes scale and corrosion from cold strip, shapes, bar, rod and wire products. The shot medium is thrust towards the work piece at high speeds and volume in order to physically remove the scale. The shot blaster can have multiple heads called slingers each of which blasts the medium onto the surface of the item to be cleaned from various angles. The shot medium can be a very fine sand or steel beads. Production type shot blasters can be either inline or batch system. With an inline shot blaster, the workpiece passes through the shot blaster cabinet on rollers through openings in the cabinet exposing the piece to the stream of blasting medium. Batch type shot blasters have a door through which the workpiece is placed and the door is closed. Automated machines are run through a cycle and the workpiece is then removed. Manual shot blasters require a human to aim the shot blast stream along the surface of the workpiece.
