Polishing and grinding lines mechanically smooth the surface of coiled strip steel products by sending the strip through a belt sander head. Smoothing the surface gives the strip a lower RMS reading. Some strip grinding machines have a top and bottom head for sanding both sides of the strip, but single heads that just grind the top of the strip are more common.
